    We’ll show you how to jailbreak your iPad 2 running iOS 5.0 or iOS 5.0.1 the right way in this guide.

    How To Jailbreak Your iPad 2 On iOS 5 The Right Way

    Step 1: Make sure you have your SHSH blobs backed up using the free TinyUmbrella app. It’s available on both Windows and Mac. Saving your SHSH blobs is essential for downgrading back to your previous iOS firmware version if something should go wrong during the jailbreak process. Basically, if you don’t complete this step, you could end up — worst case scenario — with a bricked iPad. Just download TinyUmbrella at the official site, install the app, open it up and click Save SHSH. Done!

    How To Jailbreak Your iPad 2 On iOS 5 The Right Way

    Step 2: Back up your iPad 2 4S to either iTunes or iCloud before you go any farther. In iTunes, you do this by right-clicking on your iPad 2 under the “Devices” window and selecting Back Up. You want to make sure you have a recent setup to restore to if something goes wrong. While jailbreaking isn’t that dangerous, you can never be too careful.

    Step 3: Download the free Absinthe jailbreak tool for Mac. A Windows version is also available. Unzip the file in a folder on your hard drive.

    Step 4: Connect your iPad 2 to your Mac via a USB cable and open Absinthe.

    What is Jailbreaking?

    Jailbreaking is the process by which Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS, is modified to run unsigned code in order to gain access to files that Apple wouldn’t normally let you access.

    Jailbreaking adds unofficial application installers to your iOS device, such as Cydia, which let you download many 3rd-party applications, tweaks, and extensions that are unavailable through the App Store. These packages open up endless possibilites to do things on your iOS device that a non-jailbroken iOS device would never be able to do.

    You can install extensions that give you instant access to your system settings from anywhere on your iOS device, bypass certain restrictions set in place by Apple and the carriers, and find packages that give you more control over your iOS experience.

    Jailbreaking is about freeing your iOS device from Apple’s restrictions to let you install anything you want.

    Those that are already jailbroken are encouraged to download the Cydia package. It’s called Corona 5.0.1 Untether, and you should have no problem locating it. This is by far the easiest way to get an untethered jailbreak on your device. We’ve tested it on an iPhone 4 and can confirm that it works like a charm.

    For those who aren’t currently jailbroken, you’ll have to use RedSn0w to do a full jailbreak. You can download RedSn0w here. As always, we will post a step-by-step tutorial on how to jailbreak using these programs as soon as possible.
    Important notes:

    •     Folks that depend on an unlock should use the Custom IPSW option found in RedSn0w (under “Extras”) before moving forward with the jailbreak.
    •     There is still no jailbreak available for A5 devices, but it’s being worked on.
    •     This does not work for iOS 5. You will have to update to iOS 5.0.1 for this to work properly. p0sixninja says they’re still working out bugs with the iOS 5 untether.
